Greenbelt Co-op Joins National Co+op Grocers

Saint Paul, MN, National Co+op Grocers (NCG) — the business services cooperative for retail food co-ops nationwide — today announces its newest member, Greenbelt Co-op Supermarket and Pharmacy.

Located in the historic Roosevelt Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, the co-op’s mission is to provide food, pharmacy and other consumer services to its members and the community.

"The Greenbelt, Md. area has a rich history of cooperative businesses and the Greenbelt Co-op’s roots can be traced back more than 80 years to its predecessor, Greenbelt Consumer Services," said C.E. Pugh, chief executive officer, NCG. "NCG is delighted to welcome Greenbelt Co-op to our national network and we look forward to supporting the co-op’s continued success."

Nearly 11,000 community members own Greenbelt Co-op. With 10,000 sq. ft. devoted to retail, last year the store earned more than $13 million in sales. The co-op offers its customers a variety of traditional grocery items, natural and organic foods, beer and wine, a pharmacy and special events such as wine tastings, food samplings and wellness programs.

NCG’s board of directors approved the membership application from Greenbelt Co-op at a meeting on April 19, and the new membership took effect May 1.
