Iowa City, Iowa – National Co+op Grocers (NCG) – the business services cooperative for retail food co-ops across the United States – today announces Green Top Grocery in Bloomington, Ill., has become a full member.
Green Top Grocery originally joined NCG as an associate co-op in May 2016. The co-op opened its retail store in May 2017 with the assistance of NCG’s Development Co+operative and transitioned to full NCG membership status on Jan. 1, 2019.
With more than 1,900 member owners, Green Top Grocery plays an important role in growing its local economy, supporting local farmers, encouraging healthy lifestyles, and improving food insecurity in its community. The co-op supports 80 local producers within 100 miles as well as various local charities and community organizations through its Positive Change and Round Up at the Register programs.
“Green Top Grocery’s staff, board and owners have worked diligently to build the co-op from an idea to a business with annual sales of more than $2.4 million,” said C.E.
