NCG Grows Co-op to 150; Welcomes New Members and Associate Co-op
National Co+op Grocers (NCG) – the business services cooperative for retail food co-ops across the United States – today announced the addition of three new member co-ops and one new associate co-op.
Two of the new member co-ops, Dill Pickle Food Co-op and Main Market Co-op, are existing associate co-ops converting to full membership. With the addition of full member Orcas Food Co-op and new associate Green Top Grocery Co-op, NCG now comprises 150 affiliated co-ops operating more than 200 stores.
“We’re excited to watch two of our associate co-ops transition to members, and are thrilled to welcome two more co-ops,” said Robynn Shrader, Chief Executive Officer, NCG. “The cooperative economy is thriving nationwide as more people discover all the benefits of their local food co-op.”
New Member Co-ops
Dill Pickle Food Co-op
Dill Pickle Food Co-op opened in Chicago, IL in 2009, and in its first year achieved annual sales that were more than double the projections for the co-op’s fifth year in business. After consecutive years of double-digit growth, sales are now nearing $2 million, membership has grown to more than 1,700, and the co-op has signed a lease to relocate to a larger facility.

An associate co-op since 2014, Main Market Co-op has actively taken advantage of NCG’s resources and services to better serve its 2,400 owners. The Spokane, WA co-op is now in its sixth year, with sales nearing $3 million.
Orcas Food Co-op
Orcas Food Co-op opened in 2014 in Eastsound, WA, just 12 months after its first community meetings about organizing a new co-op. The San Juan Islands-based co-op has since grown to more than 1,000 owners and $2.3 million in annual sales.
