NCG Welcomes Breadroot Co-op in South Dakota as New Member

Iowa City, IA - National Co+op Grocers (NCG) — the business services cooperative for retail food co-ops across the United States — today welcomes Breadroot Natural Foods Co-op in Rapid City, S.D., as a new member.

Founded in 2000 and opened in 2001, Breadroot is named after the native South Dakotan plant, timpsula, which serves as a natural example of the endurance and sustainability the co-op strives to achieve. The co-op’s mission is to promote community involvement in the production, procurement and distribution of natural and organic foods, as well as other products and services for healthy living. Located in the heart of Rapid City, the co-op today has more than 1,600 consumer owners.

"For nearly two decades, Breadroot has been an important part of the greater Rapid City community. The co-op’s 'Food First' motto is exemplified by their commitment to connecting shoppers to their local farmers, ranchers and producers," said C.E. Pugh, Chief Executive Officer, NCG. “We look forward to working together to continue growing our cooperative economy."
