National Co+op Grocers Joins in Celebrating Supermarket Employees Day

Saint Paul, MN – National Co+op Grocers today joins fellow grocers nationwide in celebrating Supermarket Employee Day, a moment to pause and reflect on the important role that grocery employees everywhere play in supporting the health and well-being of their communities.

FMI, The Food Marketing Institute, created today’s proclamation as a “time for the food industry to recognize employees at every level for the work they do feeding families and enriching lives.”

NCG’s 147 member co-ops employ more than 10,000 staff across 38 states.

“Food co-op staff have been on the front line every day throughout the pandemic, putting themselves at increased risk in order to serve their communities,” said C.E. Pugh, NCG’s Chief Executive Officer. “Every team member plays an important role in their co-op – whether preparing food, coordinating with suppliers and distributors, stocking shelves, overseeing the registers, managing technology, leading community outreach, fostering relationships with local farmers, and so much more. Staff are the backbones of our co-ops, and it’s never been more apparent than in these past 12 months. We are proud of food co-op staff and grateful for all they do to support healthy communities.”
