Middlebury Natural Foods Co-op
Like many other Vermont cooperatives, Middlebury Natural Foods Co-op began in the early 1970s as a buying club. Its purpose was to provide members with otherwise unavailable wholesome, natural foods products. To maximize savings, members bought in bulk, packaging the food themselves, in various barns and member homes throughout the county.
In 1976, the co-op was incorporated and opened a storefront operation. Over the past thirty years, the co-op has continued to grow. In 2004 we completed our most ambitious project ever, designing and building our beautiful new store, allowing us to serve the whole community.
Middlebury Natural Foods Co-op is member owned and dedicated to providing wholesome natural foods and environmentally sound household products at the best possible price. We also strive to offer personal service and a friendly community atmosphere for all shoppers. We are truly dedicated to the health and well-being of the whole community.
We buy our produce from local growers in season and we strive to have as many Vermont products on our shelves as possible. We offer locally and in-store produced baked goods, a large variety of cheeses (many of them local), quality wines and beer, and most of the produce we sell is organically grown. We also offer fresh flowers, extensive bulk and grocery selections, natural body care, vitamins and herbs. The in-store prepared foods department includes a hot bar, organic salad bar, soups, sandwiches, smoothies, bakery, coffee and tea, as well as grab-and-go items. We have a lovely indoor seating area along with a beautiful outside community courtyard with picnic tables and a sitting wall. We welcome your visit.
