Just Food Co-op

Just Food Co-op opened in December 2004 in Northfield, MN. We carry a wide selection of fresh produce, artisan cheeses, local meats, organic dairy products, gluten-free alternatives, bulk grains and herbs, frozen foods, grab-and-go sandwiches and soups, health and body care items and more.

Just Food is a community owned grocery store. It is a consumer co-operative where everyone is welcome to shop, and everyone is welcome to join. A consumer co-op is 100% member-owned by the very people who shop at the store. When you join the nearly 4,000 other neighbors who have become member-owners, you become an equal owner in Just Food and get to take part in the major decisions affecting the co-op.

A co-op reflects its membership. Just Food focuses on products that support healthful living with an emphasis on local, organic, and sustainable production, because these are the values our owners hold highest. Our policies come from our member-owners.

By joining Just Food, you are getting a place at the table. We have a chair waiting for you.

Just Food Mission

We will supply high quality food and other household items to support healthful living, with an emphasis on local, organic, sustainable production to the greatest extent possible.

We will make a contribution to the community by providing an inviting environment in which to shop -- one that strives to complement rather than compete with the rest of the Northfield community.

We will serve as a marketing distribution point for locally produced food, thereby encouraging the economic success of family farms in the area and the re-circulation of money within the Northfield community.

We will provide a working environment that encourages individual initiative and provides meaningful employment.

We will provide the lowest possible prices consistent with a sound business plan. We will serve all economic and cultural segments of the community.

We will provide education in healthy choices, responsible consumption and sustainable living.

We will exemplify the seven principles of cooperatives:

  • Voluntary, open membership
  • Democratic member control
  • Member economic participation
  • Autonomy and independence
  • Education, training and information
  • Cooperation among cooperatives
  • Concern for community
